How to file an amended tax return in this video. I'm gonna actually walk you step by step. Five steps to file an amended tax return. In this video, I'm gonna actually show you how to do it. If you're wondering when do you need to file an amended return, you can refer to one of my other videos linked below. Amanda here, the business finance coach, where I'm simplifying money and business so that you can succeed. Step 1: Get a copy of your originally filed return. It's really important that you start with what you already filed, so you need a copy of your originally filed return. If you don't have that, you can get a copy from the IRS, and I'll include the link in the comments below under step 1. Step 2: Get out a copy or the information of whatever you're making this change for. So, if you received another w2 or 1099 or you just did a wrong number, just get the information ready. Step 3: And this is where a lot of people get confused because a lot of people will get out the 1040 X and try to fill it out. No, the third step is you fill out a new form 1040. So based on what you were originally filed, you need to add in whatever was missing or correct whatever mistake, and you must fill out an entire new form 1040. However, you don't submit this new form 1040. It is not filed, but you should keep it for your records. So now you have your old form 1040 and a new form 1040 based on the correct amounts that you should have filed. Now for step 4: You go to form 1040X. And if you try to fill out...
