Hey everybody, I'm Rob Theriot and this is a screencast on how to create an automated attendant system. Now, there are some very sophisticated ways to do automated attendants using RFID codes and student ID tags. For example, they can scan their tags when they come into the classroom. There is also facial recognition software that you can use, although I'm not sure how prevalent it is. However, this is a low-tech way of doing automated attendance until those other ideas become more mainstream. I highly encourage you to use Docs, Forms, Sheets, etc. They are fantastic resources for teachers interested in EdTech and great tools for students as well. To access them, you need a Gmail account. To create an attendance form, go to new slide, then choose Forms. Forms allows you to create online quizzes, surveys, tests, or anything you want. It automatically generates a spreadsheet with the results of those surveys or test questions. On the Forms page, I will go to the title and name it "Attendance 101." Click on "Change Theme" and select a theme that you like. Now, to share the form with students, do not share the URL link with them because they may fill out the form when they are not in class. Instead, I will generate a QR code that they can scan when they come into class. Click on "Send Form" to generate the URL. Copy the URL (Ctrl+C or Command+C) and use a QR code generator app to create a QR code. Save the...
